Tech Beat: Dyson integrates hand dryer into sink

  • "When you wash your hands and dry your hands, all the water goes in the basin, so you don't have to walk across the floor dripping to find the paper towel or hand dryer, and you don't have to cross other people or queue for a hand dryer," he said. British inventor and master air manipulator James Dyson is taking those seemingly hurricane-force wind-producing hand dryers you've likely used in a public restroom and trying to improve upon them by integrating them into the sink. Aside from looking cool and saving you that big two-step walk from the sink to the dryer, Dyson says there are also practical reasons why this just makes sense. You then put them in front of the blades that come out of the tap, and they dry your hands, and when you move them away, they stop," Dyson said.

Importance of Industrial Dehumidifiers

Dehumidifiers and desiccant air dryer can control the condensation and damp conditions by taking the whole moisture out from the air. The industrial dehumidifier is most commonly used in commercial buildings, warehouses and industrial plants to control the humidity level. The industrial dehumidification systems are specially designed for industrial and warehouse use. It is essential to efficiently remove moisture from the building to create an environment in industrials where accurate moisture levels are required for improving processes and for storing products. In the next step, the condensed air is collected into a removable water collection container. These units are most commonly used to control moisture by preventing condensation and dampness caused due to daily activities. Air is first drawn into a dehumidifier fan, which is then cooled down. Desiccant dehumidifiers are an alternative to the refrigerant model. Industrial dehumidification systems work to condense the excessive moisture from the chilled surface. Controlling the moisture in a room or industrial area can offer several benefits. The moment the water container gets filled, a micro-switch container gets activated. While looking for an industrial wheel dehumidifier system, ensure that you get the one that has continuous drainage and self-regulating function. These dehumidifiers are mostly used when relatively low humidity is required.

iPhone fell in water. How do I fix it?

so my iPhone 4 fell in the water earlier today and I'm trying to figure out how to dry it. The phone Still turned on and still functioned, but the sound did not work on the speaker. The microphone did however pick up my voice. any help out there? yeah since it's an iPhone, how do I get the battery out?

Even if a wet cellphone seems dead, there's a good chance it can be resuscitated. Just make sure you act fast--the longer the water sits inside, the greater the likelihood it will destroy the phone for good. This is a DIY moment. While consumers are conditioned to send back broken merchandise, your phone's warranty probably doesn't cover water damage. And you may not have much luck pulling a fast one on your phone company--most of today's phones come with a "water sticker" that permanently changes color if it gets wet. The first step: Immediately cut the power by removing the battery. I know it's tempting, but resist the urge to power up your phone to see if it works--just turning it on can short out the circuits. If you have a GSM phone (the type used by AT&T and T-Mobile), you'll want to remove the SIM card as well. Even if your phone turns out to be beyond repair, the SIM should retain a lot of its onboard information, such as the contacts in your phone book. With the battery safely set aside, you now have one goal--dry your phone, and dry it fast. If you let the moisture evaporate naturally, the chance of corrosion damaging the phone's innards increases. Instead, blow or suck the water out. But don't use a hair dryer--its heat can fry your phone's insides. Instead, opt for a can of compressed air, an air compressor set to a low psi or a vacuum cleaner (a wet/dry Shop-Vac would be perfect). The idea is to use air to push or pull moisture out through the same channels it entered. Finally, use a desiccant to wick away any leftover moisture. The most convenient choice is uncooked rice. Just leave the phone (and its disconnected battery) submerged in a bowl of grains overnight. If you're worried about rice dust getting inside your phone, you can instead use the packets of silica gel that often come stuffed in the pockets of new clothes. But acting fast is far more important than avoiding a little dust,

Put it in a bag of rice
Redcarn | Dec 28, 2012
First off turn the thing off then take the battery out (oh wait its an iPhone you cannot do that) then take it and place it in a zip lock bag with white rice or the silicon things that come in electronics to help pull the remaining water out of it then pray it still works since it is an iPhone.

Manual Way Of Sucking Air Out of 5 gallon bucket?

If I wanted to preserve dried beans in a 5 gallon bucket and wanted to suck the remainding air out of the bucket manually without air pumps and the like, how would I go about doing so, if its possible.

You would need an air-tight container, not a bucket. And it needs some sort of tap. You could then connect an ordinary hoover (vacuum cleaner) to the tap and run it for a few seconds. Then close the tap and disconnect I don't know if it would damage the hoover though. And it would only remove some of the air. A better approach might be not to use a vacuum. Fill a container with the beans and put a bag of desiccant (drying agent) inside. Then seal with an airtight lid.

Thomas | Nov 19, 2012
Well, unless you mean sucking the air out by mouth - which won't get much of it out - then no.
halrosser | Nov 19, 2012
You only need to get rid of the Oxygen. Before you fill the bucket with beans, fill it with CO2 from a fire extinguisher (or burn the O2 out). Then after filling it with beans, fill it with CO2 again, which will sink and force the O2 out the top.

About this book
Many of the economic road blocks which have previously served to discourage the implementation of alternative power generation technologies can now be readily overcome through effective energy resource optimization. It is now a fact that solid financial returns can be achieved from combined heating, cooling and power generation projects by integrating energy and cost efficiency goals, and seeking a match between power production and heating/cooling requirements. This book is intended to serve as a road map to those seeking to realize optimum economic returns on such projects. The first section provides an introduction to basic heat and power thermodynamics, with an overview of heat and power generation technologies and equipment. The second section explores the infrastructure in which the project must be implemented, including environmental considerations, as well as utility rate structures. The third section provides detailed coverage of a broad range of technology types, and discusses how opportunities for their application can be identified and successfully exploited. The final section takes you through each step of project development, implementation and operation. Numerous examples are provided of actual field applications, with supporting documentation of system layouts and performance. The text is supplemented with more than one thousand graphics, including photos, cutaway drawings, layout schematics, performance curves, and data tables.

This review is from: Motor Guard DD1008-2 Mini Desiccant Filter, 2-Pack (Tools & Home Improvement) i ordered this to use in line for painting with hvlp guns. right now i do not have any sort of big filter water separator or drier hooked up directly to tank so i get alot of water coming threw my hose when i use it with the blower attachment. when i paint cars i use a devilbliss whirlwind style air/water separator which worked ok but i needed a drier. i have my system set up like this. air compressor> regulator>25ft hose> devilbliss regulator> devilbliss water separator> motorguard desiccant filter> iwata lph-400the beads did not turn pink immediately i got about 30-45 min use out of it before they STARTED to turn pink 50%. if you use a devilbliss whirl wind style water separator before your motorguard then you'll extend the life of it. devilbliss separators work much better then the "chepo" or no name brand ones. and they are pretty much the same price. so use the 2 together to get the most out of your motorguard desiccant filter 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , September 14, 2012

    Incredible Air Dryer

0 5/5 CJL - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: DeVilbiss 130525 QC3 Air Filter and Dryer (Automotive) THis unit is a fantastic buy. I had been having problems all year with automotive paint and fisheyes. The small, single use filters were not enough, even though I already had a water seperator attached in line. The QCS has a very functional water seperator built in, along with a large quantity of dessicant. The closed filters make it easy to replace dessicant. Best of all, I like the shut off valve and air control. This way I can disconnect the air lines, and won't waste dessicant due to ambient air getting into the filter. The first two panels I painted came out perfect, with no fisheyes. This is a great buy! 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , October 3, 2011

This review is from: ATD Tools 7820 Mini In-Line Disposable Desiccant Dryer (Automotive) This is the only in-line desiccant I've purchased, so I cannot compare it to others. At first I was concerned that the threads on each end were plastic, but with Teflon tape, I do not have any leaks. However, if you need to move your hose around, the hose would need strain relief so the force is not directed to the plastic connection. The desiccant changes colors as it absorbs moisture. For me, this happened in about 1/2-day's use. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , October 26, 2010

This review is from: DeVilbiss 130500 CAMAIR CT30 Series Wall-Mounted Desiccant Air Dryer/Filter System (Automotive) I use my compressor mainly for media blasting. I recently switched to a much finer mil-spec media that would clog in the gun constantly even though i had another water filter inline and kept the tank and other filter drained. Just too hot and humid here in Texas. Installing the new CT30 was a snap although it is MUCH heaiver than it would appear and I had to use 1/2" bolts to retain it. Once installed and in use, absolutely dry air out of my gun. Hopefully the media will last but it looks like the desiccant cartridge will be easy to swap out. A much simpler solution to a big problem than a refrigerant type air dryer! 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , September 14, 2013

Read mixed reviews, some like the one you're about to read, some real positive...should have went with the negative. This system comes with two packs of little blue dessicants that turn pink when they're toast. I'm runnin a ch 60 gal with a filter regulator, all of which preceded the dryer. I ran it for about 15 mins grit blasting before it turned into pressure washing. I look over an the beads are pink. 15 mins. I don't live in the amazon, in fact it hasn't rained for months its anything but abnormally humid. I can see this system working as a back up or add on to an existing system but not a stand alone as its advertised. Needless to say I returned mine. Uses desiccant quickly.

0 2/5 Chet - See all my reviews This review is from: Campbell Hausfeld PA2085 Clean Air System (Tools & Home Improvement) I purchased this along with a new Quincy 5hp 60 gallon 2-stage compressor. The PA2085 filter/dryer is recommended to remove water and dry the air from the system. The compressor was broken in and drained before the Clean Air System was installed, not much water came out from draining the compressor after break-in. The system hasn't been run continually at all, probably refilled 4 times in 24 hours. As the other reviewer mention the desiccant turns from blue to pink, when it turns pink it's time to replace. Within 24 hours the desiccant is mostly pink and will probably require replacing tomorrow with the 2nd pack included with the dryer. There has to be something better available with results not requiring renewing the desiccant every other day. Can't say I would recommend this product to others. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , January 30, 2014

The 500 is fairly large but it has a more stable base (if you aren't hanging it) & requires less frequent recharging.AT ANY RATE...I live in a very moist area & mildew, etc, is a HUGE problem here. Good-Bye Silica bags ....

0 5/5 Java Jewels (phoenix) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Eva-dry Renewable E-333 Wireless Mini Dehumidifer (Health and Beauty) This is the third one I've purchased (two were already in use in two separate cases doing a fantastic job). With having to care for vintage costume jewelry, these units are perfectly sized to fit in my showcases and not be an eyesore. Usually requiring a recharge every 2-3 weeks, I purchased the third so I never have a minute without one protecting my collection. Definitely great value considering what silica packs cost every 3 months. Anyone with a prized collection (whether it be paper, guns, gems or art) should seriously consider purchasing this product for smaller storage areas (safes, cabinets, etc). 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , February 26, 2007
