My Genie garage door opener motor continues to run after the door has been raised. We disconnected it. Can i?

Can it be fixed?

Look for the model of your unit and Google it. There are various sites that allow you to download user manuals for Genie openers.

Yes. It should be easy. You will need a ladder to reach the unit, and then adjust the settings. You did not say which model you have, but there are settings available for maximum lift and when to stop on all models. Check the owner manual for instructions on re-setting the model you have.

Very likely it can. It depends on the model but somewhere there's a mechanism which should stop the motor when the door has reached the right place and clearly yours isn't working. It may simply be out of adjustment, a switch may have failed or there might be a problem with the wiring. You should be able to work it out if you examine the apparatus.
James | Sep 22, 2012
The easiest possible solution would be to unplug the unit for 5 minutes then plug it back in. Many of todays devices reset themselves automatically. If that doesn't work, then something within the unit is faulty. (ie. clutch)

Works with my OLD "Overhead Door, Legacy"

0 5/5 D. B. - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Genie G3T-R Intellicode2 3-Button Remote (Tools & Home Improvement) Shearched for ages for a small remote for my "Overhead Door" Legacy model opener. I found a larger two button some time ago that worked with it, and was looking for a smaller replacement. THIS IS IT. Tried for a few moments to connect it out of the package to no avail, then I checked to ensure noone was looking and I read the instructions. I had to change the programming to intellicode 1. This is as easy as holding the button down for ten seconds, then double clicking the same button. Went back to the garage door, hit the program button and now I have two awesome small remotes to put my postcard sized granny remotes in storage! When in doubt RTFM! 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , December 5, 2012

This review is from: Genie Intellicode Gitr-3 Remote Replaces Git-1, Git-2 & Git-3 Sure can't beat the price. I have a (about) 10 year old Genie Intellicode opener and needed an additional remote. It comes with detailed instructions on how to program, but I had a little difficulty that I may be able to spare you from. The learn button that you will need to push on the opener is next to the light bulbs, not under the cover with the motor and circuit boards. I was initially unable to get the opener to learn the code being broadcast from this remote. Turns out that I had to reset the opener so that none of my remotes were recognized, then program them all again at the same time. It works great, and I know from previous use with Genie's remotes that the battery will last 6 or more years with daily use. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , August 13, 2011

Intellicode 1 owners -- use Right Button

This review is from: Genie Intellicode Gitr-3 Remote Replaces Git-1, Git-2 & Git-3 Followed all directions, and failed to work. Before returning to Amazon I checked other reviews -- and read about the Right Button working for older openers. Tried programming with Right Button (single braile dot) -- and it worked first time. So, though it says "For ALL Intellicode Openers" -- they leave out some details on the instructions. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , August 15, 2012

Tip for those who complain of short range

0 5/5 EPS (West Columbia, SC) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Chamberlain KLIK1U Clicker Transmitter Universal Garage Door Remote Control (Tools & Home Improvement) I got mine set up fairly quickly. Didn't work the first time, so I reversed all the switches on the opener and did it again, and that did the trick. But I then found the range to be very short - less than 10 feet - no good! But what I also found was that I was expecting to press the button 16 times for a Stanley opener, yet 14 did the trick (i.e. the door was activated on the 14th press.) 14 is for a multicode (I take that to mean generic.) So I programmed it again, but this time did the full 16 presses, and now my range is very good - along the lines of 100 feet. Also, if you're curious (I was) - how does it control 2 doors with only 1 set of DIP switches? It remembers the settings during activation. So you set it to match one door, do the programming step, then set it to match the switches on your second door and do the programming step for it. Great unit and highly recommend! 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , July 22, 2010

    Wow! Am I happy!

My Genie opener was installed in 1990, and I had dropped the remote for what turned out to be the last time. I had searched and found out that model remote was no longer made. I took a chance and ordered the Clicker. When the Clicker arrived, I found the reference to my unit. I knew about the DIP switches inside my existing remote, and the Clicker instructions told me to program the DIP switches inside the Clicker just the same. (This is only true for specific models of openers, remotes and year installed - others use the programming button on the receiver). I followed the clear directions: they seemed a bit odd, but I followed them exactly (17 clicks) and voila! ~ the garage door opened! I programmed the other door as well, and now I have one compact remote to open both doors. I cannot believe it took me so long to find the solution, and it took less than five minutes to program the two doors. Wow! Am I happy! The instructions are clear and detailed, and you just need to... 5/5 KBSt "KBSt" (San Francisco, CA United States) - See all my reviews This review is from: Chamberlain KLIK1U Clicker Transmitter Universal Garage Door Remote Control (Tools & Home Improvement) My Genie opener was installed in 1990, and I had dropped the remote for what turned out to be the last time. Initial frustration - ends in useful product

Frankly, I was ready to send this back. I found the instructions very lacking as the keypad simply didn't respond as they said it should. This resulted in an internet (Genie) and youtube search which yeilded different directions yet. Still, it did not work following them to the "T".As others have said, it comes set for Intellicode 2 which are very new openers. I suspect most people need inellicode 1 as I did. Following the directions, the unit would not move from intellicode 2 to 1, or take a PIN because the unit did not come "cleared" for use. Finally in complete frustration, I called the Genie help line in which the directions had a typo that couldn't work as it didn't have enough digits. Fortunately, the number is on the lid of the keypad. I waited a on hold about 15 minutes, (hard to belive that many people need help) but finally got through and a nice woman told me how to clear the keypad which was not on any directions or youtube video. She had me... 3/5 D. Easy install, VERY quiet, wife loves it.

We had two LiftMaster openers that were about 15 years old. They vibrated and made lots of noise, and when the gears stripped we decided to try another brand. This Genie 1022 is amazing. My wife loves it because it's SO quiet. The motor is very smooth and doesn't vibrate at all. The door movement starts off gradually and accelerates to normal speed. No jerking when starting or stopping. The installation went very smoothly. The hardware is well labeled and packaged in separate little boxes and packs, one for each installation task. Avoids any confusion about what hardware is required for each step. The setup and adjustment is easy. Push buttons to set and then lock in the up and down travel limits. Two simple clicks to link the remotes to the opener. Remotes work well, and a quick click reliably triggers the opener. However the button on the wall switch needs to be held for a second for it to activate the opener.I've installed several garage door... 5/5 Joe Huber (San Jose California) - See all my reviews This review is from: Genie 1022-2TX 1/2-Horsepower AC ChainLift Garage Door Opener with Two-Transmitters (Tools & Home Improvement) We had two LiftMaster openers that were about 15 years old. This review is from: Genie GM3T-R Master 3-Button Remote (Tools & Home Improvement) Bought this for my daughter in law's rental place that had a very old school Genie Screw type garage unit. I aligned the dip switches to match the garage opener (Could not tell which direction matched the switches aligned w/ this remotes switch but it could only be one of two configurations). But there is a toggle w/I this remote that had to be set so that it is for a model of the old school 12 switch units like I had and you had to push a button and wait for a light to blink for this configuration to work... so read about this first! If you try to find at the local hardware store, they only sell models for the newer auto config. garage door openers. This GM3T-R is the one you need for the old school openers. This review is from: Genie Garage Door Opener Deluxe Wall Console and Button GPWC-2WLB The house I lived in for a few years had sinlge push-button garage door opener. When I needed extra light in the garage; there was no way to turn on the garage door light & have it stay on. I wasn't that worried about it until I stumbled upon this unit, here. Now, I have the ability to flip on the garage door light without opening the garage (the light only stayed for 5 minutes). So, YES, I like being able to turn the light on, seperatly. The buttons are illuminated in red. Plus, you can lock/unlock the buttons (stops the kids from playing with the buttons). Installation was simple - took like 2 minutes. Honestly, this is most likely a one-time purchase for me because I can't see it breaking or malfunctioning any time, soon. Upon firing the new unit up, two features stood out: (1) it is QUIET; (2) it is slow. From my point of view the unit is (was) so quiet that I didn't mind the slow speed. Incredibly quiet and smooth. I even told my co-workers how great it was. Five stars . . .Then, after about 14 months, it died. No signs of distress. It. Just. Stopped.A Genie tech ultimately determines the problem is [probably] the circuit board. Also, the circuit board is only covered for 12 months so it'll be $100 for a new one. That should fix the problem, unless it doesn't. Then I can buy more parts.[UPDATED FROM ONE STAR TO THREE] After proving to Genie that I had actually purchased the the opener, they sent me a new circuit board for free. I only paid a modest shipping charge. The circuit... 3/5 Robert K. Install issues but working well now

0 4/5 CSL (Boston, MA) - See all my reviews The manual is pretty good and they pack things so that they are easy to find and follow but for my tall door which required an extension kit they missed some crucial info. The belt bullet/joiner needs to be on the right side when inside the garage and facing door. If you make this mistake you could have some bad results--broken pully. The instructions are also weak around the top section brace. Now that it's installed and working well I do like it and the quietness and overall ease of use 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , August 16, 2011

    SHHHHHHHH

0 5/5 CaddiMan - See all my reviews Very very quiet ! Its funny when I hear all my neighbors garage doors squeecking and the loud chains going up and down while mine is pure silence ! Love it ! One thing that did happen I believe was that we had a power surge with lightning and for almost 6 months they would not work ! Finaly I replaced the door sensors and it still did not work . Come to find out Genie asked me if I had any power outages or lightning bad and I said yes . They sent me two new circuit boards free of charge and they have worked like new ever since ! They poped right out and in very easy to install circuit boards. P.S buy small surge protectors for each outlet they're plugged into . 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , September 19, 2011
