how to fit a wire on garage up and over door?

It appears that you asking how to install a garage door opener. If this is the case, then you need to purchase a opener of at least 1/2 HP. Go to your local home center and select the opener that meets your needs, you can get one with 1 or 2 remote openers (the operator device for your vehicle). If you follow the instructions carefully, you can do it in about 2 hours (longer if you you are not mechanical). You will need an electrical source near the opener motor on the ceiling. Things to remember: do not pierce the wiring when installing, make sure all screws are tight, read the instructions twice before attempting. If you are not sure, do not attempt this task. Have it installed.

The question is somewhat vague, what do you intend to do with this wire?
Timothy L | Apr 28, 2010
I think you are asking how to fit a replacement wire that goes from the door slider to the big spring at the top ? If so I really wouldn't try a DIY job. Its is in fact quite a dangerous job. Quite easy to remove fingers or get in the way of the cable whipping if not located properly. Get a quote from a garage door company.
GT | Apr 28, 2010
You need to be more specific before any body can assist you, after all electric line can be rather dangerous on many aspects safety is more important not only to you but your next door na bours as well.
pipe strangler | Apr 28, 2010
I think Timothy has the correct line here, its an operating wire attached to door to enable it to open with spring assistance however as there are several different manufacturers using cables and springs in differtent ways its not really possible to give a sensible helpful answer without the make/model of of the door.

My elect garage door has a 3Kw motor. Opening and closing takes 20sec 10 times a day. What is the cost per yr?

This would be a HUGE motor for a door opener. most are .5 hp to 1.5 hp (400-1200 watt) 200 sec/day x 365=73000/60=1217/60=.277 total hours x 3kw=60.83 kw/hr x (price electricity in kw/hr)=yearly cost

daniel g | Jul 20, 2009
themanofknoledge? | Jul 20, 2009
i depends on your electric cost you'll have to check your bill. aka i don't know not enough information
The Circus Bearded Lady | Jul 20, 2009
5 acres of tree needs to be planted every year.
Donkey | Jul 20, 2009
Your door runs for 20.27 hours per year. Assuming it runs at full 3KW and electric is 20p per KWh (Killo Watt Hour) £12.16 The device will use power all of the time it is in standby (just like your TV does) so say it uses 20 watt / hour in standby. that gives 174kwh. £34.96 total £47.12 Of course the motor probably pulls less than 3 kw so you might likely use less than half of this ammount.

Cooperation in Wireless Networks: Principles and Applications, Real Egoistic Behavior is to Cooperate!

Creator: Frank H. P. Fitzek, Marcos D. Katz | 2006-07-21

Frank H. P. Fitzek, Marcos D. Katz. available wireless information networks and resources just ... could learn to open the garage door for you wirelessly. Thus, you would not need to fish for the garage door opener, yet another wireless gadget.

Publisher: Springer

About this book
Cooperation is known as an effective strategy in nature to achieve individual or common goals by forming cooperative groups. As the cross over between nature and engineering has always been fruitful, Cooperation in Wireless Networks: Principles and Applications advocates the use of cooperative strategies in the field of wireless communications. Whether to cooperate or act autonomously, i.e., in a more selfish manner, has to be decided by each wireless terminal individually. Following the rule "The real egoistic behavior is to cooperate", mutual aid among terminals will be applied if and only if it is beneficial for all group members. Cooperation in Wireless Networks: Principles and Applications covers the underlying principles of cooperative techniques as well as several applications demonstrating the use of such techniques in practical systems. The work is written in a collaborative manner by several authors from Asia, America, and Europe. Twenty chapters introduce and discuss in detail the main cooperative strategies for the whole communication protocol stack from the application layer down to the physical layer. Furthermore power saving strategies, security, hardware realization, and user scenarios for cooperative communication systems are introduced and discussed. The book also summarizes the strength of cooperation for upcoming generation of wireless communication systems, clearly motivating the use of cooperative techniques and pointing out that cooperation will become one of the key technologies enabling 4G and beyond. This book puts into one volume a comprehensive and technically rich view of the wireless communications scene from a cooperation point of view.

Popular Mechanics Garage Makeovers, Adding Space Without Adding On

Chain-drive openers come with various-sized motors ('/2-hp and 3/4-hp are the most common), and require periodic lubrication. Screw-drive. Screw-drive garage door openers have a number of advantages over chain-drive models.

Publisher: Hearst

About this book
The garage is often the last place in the home that gets a makeover?even though it's often desperately in need of an overhaul. But homeowners are catching on. Now, Rick Peters presents six themed ways to transform the garage into a comfortable, effective, and efficient space: enclosing a carport; making a mechanic's dream work area; adding a woodworking shop; creating a craft room; putting in storage (and more storage); and building a family room. All the work takes place on site, in real families' two-car garages, with the tasks divided into two groups: those that the average homeowner can accomplish him or herself, and those best left to professionals. The guide's friendly and easy-to-follow format shows what needs to be done and how to do it; the more demanding jobs receive extremely detailed descriptions that explain what the work entails, how long it should take, and what it typically costs.

About this book
Offering a uniquely modern, balanced approach, Tussy/Gustafson/Koenig's DEVELOPMENTAL MATHEMATICS FOR COLLEGE STUDENTS, Third Edition, integrates the best of traditional drill and practice with the best elements of the reform movement. To many developmental math students, algebra is like a foreign language. They have difficulty translating the words, their meanings, and how they apply to problem solving. Emphasizing the "language of algebra," the text's fully integrated learning process is designed to expand students' reasoning abilities and teach them how to read, write, and think mathematically. It blends instructional approaches that include vocabulary, practice, and well-defined pedagogy with an emphasis on reasoning, modeling, communication, and technology skills.

My problem is that I ordered three at one time and was charged the full shipping and handling charges for each one individually. They were shipped together in one box as one would expect. So the actual price including the shipping and handling was much higher than what I expected. I feel I was ripped off, although somewhat subtly. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , January 2, 2012

    Great Product; Relatively Easy Installation

I benefited greatly from comments others made about this product and how to install it, and I thought I'd add mine for any who are looking at getting this. My 11-year-old Liftmaster chain drive garage door opener stopped working and had the same worn out sprocket that so many have described, with the white snow shavings, etc. I too feared I'd have to spend $100s getting it fixed, then I found this great product on Amazon. I installed it last night, the whole process, including finding tools and adjusting the chain and door afterward, took me about 2.5 hours, but the actual removal and installation of the part took only about an hour. Garage door works great now, and is quieter than before. For the installation, I did what the reviewer before me did, which means I didn't remove all of the stuff the instructions said to remove. Works like a charm, but what a lot of work it is.......

First, I wanted to offer compliments to other reviewers that described the symptoms of the gears being bad - the "snow", the stop-and-starts, the stop working altogether but can still hear the motor running - nailed it exactly. Very clear to me after reading those that this was exactly the product I needed. It is exactly what it says it is - an OEM Liftmaster gear replacement assembly. The directions that come with it are excellent - step-by-step, and it explains exactly what you need to do. The directions are the best part of this product - if they were not so well done, it would be impossible. No knock against the product, but installation was considerably more work than I expected. I had visions of undoing a couple of screws, popping out a gear, putting in the new ones, and being done - boy, I couldn't have been more wrong. The process can best be summarized as "take your garage door opener completely apart, removing all pieces, wires, etc. Around 30 to 50 screws,... 5/5 Kentucky Reviewer (Louisville, KY) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Worked! Here are a few tips.

This is one of those time consuming jobs with little annoying issues. Here are my tips so hopefully you can avoid the problems I had, making your job much faster than mine was. The sprocket on the top of my unit broke so I just had to replace the drive gear and shaft. No other parts were worn or damaged so I didn't bother with them. The annoying part is that you unscrew the screws on the shaft plate from the inside of the unit and there isn't alot of room for your hand motion. I used the smallest ratchet in my set. A couple things to be aware of during this step is that you can remove the back panel with the circuit board by unplugging the circuit board. It has a multi-pin plug that is very similar to computer drive plugs. Also, I recommend wearing mechanics gloves b/c the unit is made from stamped metal so there are lots of sharp edges and corners which easily cut up your knucles and scrape fingers. One other problem I had was with my chain. Since the sprocket broke the... 4/5 BTM (Jeffersonville, IN) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) To verify this remote works with your unit, press the learn button on your overhead unit (remove the plastic light cover on the back side and look for a square button - mine is red). When you press the button the led light will light up. If yours is yellow, then this remote will work for you. I would suggest you immediately unplug and re-plug in your garage door opener to cancel the "learn" mode so that on the off chance that a neighbor is opening their garage door your door opener won't "learn" their code and start opening when they push their remote... but anyway...Setup is as simple as that, press the learn button, then press the remote button. The unit will click and flash to let you know it is learned. Now the remote will work. The remote also comes with battery and clip to mount to your car visor. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , October 17, 2010

With this kit and a little time, you can repair your garage door opener.

I was faced with the decision to purchase a new garage door opener for about $230 or repair the existing opener from 1992 which lacks some of today's safety features. Since I don't use this garage door often and I don't have children, I opted to save some cash and do the repair myself. I have no previous experience of doing these types of garage door opener repairs, but as a do-it-yourselfer I figured it was worth the attempt. The kit came with detailed instructions which broke the process down into 5 main steps each with multiple individual tasks. The instructions were not exact for my opener, but were close enough to get the point. The steps start with removing the motor with the worm, removing the chain stem with the gear, replacing the worm, replacing the gear, and finally reassembling everything. Once the first two steps were completed I brought the parts inside to work on. I had the most trouble removing the tightly set pin to replace the gear. About two hours... 5/5 L. T. Not for the faint of heart....

This was a lot of work, more than I had anticipated, despite the excellent reviews here, warning of the many nuts, plugs, and pins involved. The directions were so-so. I found that they were written very generically with the intent to apply to variations of the models. The diagrams could have been more clear...for example, I had trouble figuring out where the retainer clip and limit drive gear (2A) was. It's the white thing on the end of the sprocket assembly shaft. My advice is to take your time and move very slowly through the instructions, step by step. There were a few things that delayed me:* The sprocket assembly had to be lifted up through the hole in the chassis, and I only had 2 inches of clearance between the top of the opener and the ceiling of the garage. This meant that the opener had to come down a few inches. I suspended it with rope and bungees since taking it down completely would have meant un-bolting it from the chain axel, and I didn't... 5/5 Spumanti (Mountain View, CA United States) - See all my reviews This review is from: Chamberlain Garage Door Opener Gear Kit - Part #41A2817 This was a lot of work, more than I had anticipated, despite the excellent reviews here, warning of the many nuts, plugs, and pins involved. The directions were so-so. It comes with detailed instructions on how to program, but I had a little difficulty that I may be able to spare you from. The learn button that you will need to push on the opener is next to the light bulbs, not under the cover with the motor and circuit boards. I was initially unable to get the opener to learn the code being broadcast from this remote. Turns out that I had to reset the opener so that none of my remotes were recognized, then program them all again at the same time. It works great, and I know from previous use with Genie's remotes that the battery will last 6 or more years with daily use. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , August 13, 2011

I would highly recommend. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , September 1, 2008

Very quiet, lifts even our very heavy door

We used to have a 1/3 HP garage door opener, and it gave us nothing but problems. We have a metal folding garage door with wood panels on the outside. Whenever there was overnight moisture, we would not be able to open the garage door. The door would become soaked when it rained, and it was very heavy. Not a problem for this 3/4 HP garage door opener from Chamberlain. It opens our heavy garage door every time, and it's also very quiet. No loud mechanical or electrical noises when it's operating. The box that it came in is not that large. It includes the railings in sections. The rail comes together from the pieces to form one permanent long piece. At first, we thought it would be very difficult to install this opener, but in fact it was very easy. We took our time to make sure it was installed right, and the total time was about 1 hour. The instructions were clear and the installation was surprisingly a breeze. The only thing is that be aware... 5/5 Calvin Tong - See all my reviews, December 29, 2005

Quiet, powerful, motion sensor light, hard to program to my cars

I purchased this unit when my 11-year old Craftsman 1/2 hp died. That unit was noisy, slow, and too young to die. The previous door opener I owned was 20-years old when I sold the home, it still worked fine.Okay, so after reading the reviews on Amazon, I decided to go with another chain drive because the belt drives sounded a bit dicey with plastic gears or whatever. I decided on the 3/4 hp for 2 reasons, 1.) it was cheaper than the 1/2 hp with the wireless keypad (which I already owned), and 2.) I figured a little extra power might make it last longer, and will be compatible with a heavier door if we decide or need to replace the existing one. From Amazon, it was delivered in 1 day, even though I selected Standard shipping (3-5 day estimate), pretty cool.Okay, so the Chamberlain PD752D instructions were better than I imagined, but still hard to read in some sections - requiring several attempts to understand what they were intending. I'm pretty mechanically... 5/5 Craig Detter (Chicago, IL - United States) - See all my reviews, February 11, 2011

    Craftsman 1/2 HP Opener 1995

Our Craftsman 1/2 HP garage door opener ('95 model) acted up whenever it got cold and had been progressively getting worst. After researching the problem (spring tension, up/down force setting, alignment of sensors) it was finally determined that the sensors themselves had become defective. This is due to the cold weather affecting the capacitor in the sensor. Each sensor has a capacitor on its printed circuit board. Each circuit board has two electrolytic capacitors. One is 470uf at 16 volts. The other is 1uf at 50 volts. The cold increases conductivity and reduces the resistance of the insulation material in the capacitor. Age of the insulation material also degrades. This in turn impacts the completion of the circuit being created by the electronic sensor eyes at the garage door opener itself. (yes, too much info here but I wracked my brains out trying to figure out the WHY instead of just replacing the sensors)The replacement sensors are a perfect fit... 5/5 R.L. It fixed my problem!

My receiving eye LED light was very dim and would go completely off when it got really cold down here in S. Florida, Broward Co. 12/27/10 (36 degrees!)So what would happen is when I would go to press the wall button to have the garage door go down, it would go down for like 7" then automatically go back up on it's own - and the light would blink 10 times. So I bought the two replacements, (comes in a kit, with both) that were exact to the original model numbers...1) I only replaced the receiving eye and the LED light wasn't as bright as the sending eye - and I still had the same problem.2) I then replaced the sending eye and adjusted them so they can "see" each other, Everything Works Perfect NOW!!!For me at least - adjusting them was a little tricky, because they are very touchy and must be aligned perfectly.Just make sure the receiving eye LED light is not fluttering or blinking really fast, because it won't work... 5/5 ProFlex (Firenze, Italia) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) New generation of opener tech - DIY Install

This product is the latest generation of opener technology from Chamberlain. It is extremely quiet and the warranty is fantastic (better than earlier generations). Please note that because this is a new generation, there WILL be compatibility problems with older generation openers. The remotes and remote keypad use Security+ 2.0 and the accessories use MyQ technology. This means that this opener will not work with previous generations of Chamberlain accessories, so be careful when purchasing them. Also, some reviews here that are not Amazon verified seem to not be for this unit and describe earlier generations. This unit is for 7' tall doors (kits available for taller ones). Note that the model carried by Costco looks to have a similar model number (WD962KD) but it uses the older technology so the accessories/remotes are not compatible.Pluses over older generation belt driven models: Better warranty than earlier generations. Compatible with CFL bulbs. Cheaper/more... 5/5 Steven Bone (Pittsburgh, PA United States) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Garage Door Opener

Although I bought this product at a local store, this product is the same.By far this is the quietest garage door opener I have owned. I am very impressed with everything about this product. Some people complained about the directions. I found them very clear. Some people also complained about some missing parts. Since each installation is very different, I can understand why some parts might not be included. The directions make it very clear which parts are missing from the kit. There is a downside that was brought up by a previous reviewer. The garage door opener uses new frequencies or codes that are not compatible with automobiles older than 2011. The company that deals with the wireless stuff is called Homelink, a unit of Johnson Controls. I called up the company and told the representative that my car would not program properly. He told me my car was not compatible and I needed something called a Homelink Repeater. That would have been nice to... 4/5 JS - See all my reviews This review is from: Chamberlain WD962KEV Whisper Drive Garage Door Opener with MyQ Technology and Battery Backup (Tools & Home Improvement) Although I bought this product at a local store, this product is the same.By far this is the quietest garage door opener I have owned. Silent Opener

This is the best garage door opener I have ever seen and not heard. It is well built and dead silent. The WD962KEV opener is sold under as a variety of bundles. I happen to have the HD920EV (HD stands for Home Depot), the opener itself is exactly the same across all these bundles, it is the accessories that are different (HD920EV, 349544, WD962KEF, and WD962KPEV are the same opener). My only complaint with this opener is the instruction manual. There is a fair amount of paper packed in the box. It would have been really simple for Chamberlain to publish and installation manual and then a separate manual for use. I'm not normally somebody that likes extra paperwork. In this case the installation is so complicated and long, and I will only use that part of the manual once; it seems logical to have a separate manual for adjusting, programming, and use. Sadly the whole box feels like a bunch of independent parts tossed in one box. The biggest omission is the whole... 5/5 Daniel G. Lebryk (Chicago) - See all my reviews, December 25, 2012
